Abstract
In a recent paper we examined the bifurcation of inflated thin-walled cylindrical shells under axial loading and its interpretation in terms of the mechanical response of arterial tissue affected by Marfan syndrome. The arterial walls mechanical response of patients with marfan’s syndrome exhibits a limited amount of strain stiffening followed by strain softening and then further stiffening. We refer to such behavior as localized strain softening or just LSS. Here we extend that membrane analysis to an elastic tube of finite thickness made of an isotropic incompressible material that shows LSS behavior.
