Abstract
The 450 °C and 600 °C isothermal sections of the Zn-Ti-Si ternary system were experimentally determined by means of optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy equipped with wave dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis, and X-ray diffraction. The experimental results indicate that nine and eight three-phase regions exist in the Zn-Ti-Si system at 450 °C and 600 °C, respectively, Ti5Si3 is in equilibrium with the all Zn-Ti compounds. The maximum solubility of Zn in Ti5Si3 is up to 2.9% and 5.4% at 450 °C and 600 °C, respectively. Five Zn-Ti binary compounds, TiZn16, Ti3Zn22, TiZn3, TiZn and Ti2Zn were found in this study.
