Abstract
Manufacturing worm gears requires numerous adjustments and contact patterns are often used to validate worm–gear coupling quality. Here, a numerical tool has been developed to simulate worm and gear cutting and compute the kinematics error and unloaded contact pattern. The numerical tool is then used to study the influence of a set of cutting parameters and formulate a procedure for optimising manufacturing before any operation in the workshop.
