Abstract
Twinning is accompanied by a significant shear eigenstrain. If the twins form a band-like structure, the approximation of the twin by an oblate spheroid cannot reproduce the actual strain and stress state. Analytical solutions provided by the theory of elasticity are employed to find the stress state and the elastic strain energy for band-type twins in several configurations. Closed-form relations can be presented which are directly applicable to further micromechanical and material–physical studies.
