Abstract
This paper reports a powder metallurgy (PM) route to fabricate the cellular Mg alloy by using CaCO3 powder as the “blowing agent”. The key factor of successful Mg alloy foaming is to form the low melting point intermetallic compounds by adding Al and the necessary sintering treatment, which can make the gas release reaction between Mg melt and CaCO3 happen during the foaming process.
