Abstract

This paper addresses the dynamic performances of partially bonded or unbonded metallic hollow sphere structure (MHSS). Under the condition that the densities of MHSS are the same, three morphologies, that is, simple cubic (SC), body-centered cubic (BCC) and face-centered cubic (FCC) are investigated to see the topological effect of lattice structure on the dynamic performance of MHS agglomerates.

► We investigated the dynamic performance of bonded or unbonded MHS arrays with different lattices. ► The lattice transformation in unbonded MHSS abates the stress oscillation. ► The connectivity among spheres has less effect on the dynamic performance of MHSS. ► For a certain density, SCC lattice is prior for low impact; whilst SC or unbonded BCC lattice is recommended under high impact.
