Abstract

This paper is concerned with the equilibrium theory of materials with microstructure whose particles, in addition to the classical displacement and temperature, possess microtemperatures and can stretch and contract independently of their translations. The plane strain of homogeneous and isotropic elastic solids is investigated. First, a counterpart of the Boussinesq–Somigliana–Galerkin solution in the classical elasticity is established. Then, this solution is used to study the effect of concentrated heat sources on the deformation of the body. Finally, the problem of thermal stresses in an elastic space with a cylindrical hole is studied.
