Abstract
In this paper, we developed a novel and facile electrodeposition method for Mn2+ doped superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (Mn-SPIONs) in both bare and poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) capped forms (i.e. bare Mn-SPIONs and PVP capped Mn-SPIONs). The magnetite crystal structure, uniform spherical particle morphologies, nanometer size, Mn2+ cations incorporation and PVP surface coat were confirmed through XRD, IR, FE-SEM, DLS and DSC-TGA techniques. The superparamagnetic behavior of both Mn-SPIONs and PVP-Mn-SPIONs samples were indicated by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) data. Based on the obtained results, it was stated that the developed electrochemical route can be considered as a facile platform for preparation of novel biocompatible metal ion doped iron oxides for possible biomedical applications.
