Abstract
The paper reviews structural dynamic models of DNA and the role of nonlinear localized instabilities in the double helix denaturation. A statistical theory is developed to describe the evolution of localized distortion modes. Possible relations of structural-scaling transitions in ensembles of localized distortion modes with the replication and transcription phenomena are discussed.
