Abstract
We consider the possibility to describe inhomogeneous solids in the context of the gauge theory formalism which is a universal method of modern physics. It is shown that with the Lagrangian of an inhomogeneous elastic solid this approach allows derivation of Euler-Lagrange dynamic equations that can be applied to construct various dynamic models for the deformation of an inhomogeneous solid with defects. Following the classification of continuum mechanics, we analyze groups of inhomogeneous materials that could be described with the use of dynamic equations of gauge models.
