Abstract
Cadmium sulphide (CdS) quantum dots were synthesized via simple chemical precipitation technique under methanolic medium, while oleic acid is used as capping agent to control the particle size and to prevent agglomeration. The hexagonal wurtzite structure of the title compound was revealed through powder X-ray diffraction analysis. The CdS quantum dots exhibited strong absorption and luminescent properties in the visible region. Dynamic light scattering analysis gives the hydrodynamic diameter of the prepared CdS product. Field emission scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope analyses confirm the spherical morphology and give the particle size of the synthesized CdS sample. These findings would be helpful in determining the suitability of the CdS quantum dots to photovoltaic device applications.
