Abstract

In this study, geometrically nonlinear static and dynamic response of shells of revolution is investigated using an isoparametric axisymmetric shell element. The formulation is based on the total Lagrangian approach and the material behavior is assumed to be linearly elastic. The Arclength method is used to analyze the post-buckling behavior and the Newmark’s integration technique coupled with the Newton–Raphson iteration scheme is employed for dynamic responses. Various numerical examples are performed to obtain the geometrically nonlinear static and dynamic behavior of shells of revolution subjected to step loads.
