Abstract
A magnetic fluid (MF) consisting of water-soluble maghemite nanoparticles, stabilized by a polymerized bilayer of fatty acid, was prepared. The simplicity of the synthesis without intermediate purification phases allows the preparation of MF. The structure and composition of the nanoparticles were analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and magnetic measurements. The hydrodynamic diameter of the coated nanoparticles in the magnetic liquid and their stability against dilution was monitored by dynamic light scattering (DLS).
