Abstract
The influence of trace amounts of Sn on the formation of the LPSO phase and mechanical properties of Mg-RE-Zn alloys is discussed. Results show that trace Sn has no effect on the phase category of the alloy. After annealing, however, Sn-doped alloys show a high density of the lamellar-shaped LPSO phase. After Sn addition, the strength of the alloy is enhanced but its elongation is reduced.
