Abstract
The brittle fracture criterion is developed for a blunted crack. The curvature radius of the blunt crack tip is suggested as a characteristic length for brittle materials, and then the fracture toughness of the brittle materials can be determined from the cohesion strength and the characteristic length of the materials.
