Abstract
Expanded graphite was adopted to prepare graphene oxide and the traditional Hummers method was adapted, especially for the mid-temperature reaction. A spontaneous-expansion step was introduced to indicate the sufficient intercalation of graphite. Preparation of GO became much safer and more stable in high yield than that by the unmodified method.
