This study presents a systematic method for the design and analysis of cams with three circular-arc profiles. The proposed approach commences by constructing a generic geometric model of the cam profile and deriving the corresponding equations of the constituent circular arcs using a homogeneous coordinate transformation method. The kinematic characteristics of the designed cam are then investigated numerically using an equivalent slider-crank representation. Finally, the NC data required to manufacture the three circular-arc cam are obtained from the characteristic solutions of the cam profile. The proposed methodology provides a versatile and effective means of designing and manufacturing three circular-arc cams with a variety of design features.
