Abstract
Advanced corrosion protection properties of poly(aniline-co-o-toluidine)/flyash composite is studied. The copolymer composite coatings were developed by loading them in epoxy resin. The coatings were characterized by FTIR, XRD, TGA and SEM techniques. TGA analysis reveals a significant improvement in the thermal stability of epoxy coatings with the addition of copolymer composite. The electrochemical characterizations carried out in 3.5Â wt.% NaCl show a remarkable improvement in the corrosion resistance of epoxy coatings with copolymer composites. An artificial defect was created on the coated surface to study the passivation behaviour of copolymer composite present in the epoxy coatings. The corrosion results and SEM micrographs of the coated surfaces with defects clearly show the passivation effect of poly(aniline-co-o-toluidine)/flyash composite resulting in the decrease of corrosion current density. Salt spray test results revealed superior corrosion resistance offered by the copolymer composite under accelerated test conditions.
