Abstract
Well structured platinum nanoparticles were deposited on different metal oxide nanoparticles by continuous chemical vapor synthesis/metal organic chemical vapor deposition in an aerosol process and by fixed bed MOCVD at atmospheric pressure. Commercially available MeCpPtMe31 and novel PtMe2(iBu-COD) 2 were shown to be highly suitable for platinum MOCVD on nanoparticles. The thermal properties of the precursors were characterized within this study (DSC, TGA, FTIR). CVD was carried out on aerosol generated SiO2, TiO2 and Al2O3 nanoparticles. TEM observations of the platinum nanoparticles show narrow median sizes around 2-4 nm. In order to increase the production rate, structuring properties were transferred to a newly constructed fixed bed CVD experimental setup. Optimized conditions and a better understanding of the precursor decomposition mechanism yield to very homogenously distributed Pt nanoparticles with very narrow size distributions and median sizes of around 2 nm on well specified commercially available metal oxide nanoparticles.
