Abstract
► Tungsten forms a thick and non-protective oxide scale during exposure to oxidation. ► WSi2 coatings are not effective below 1300 °C due to the low vapor pressure of WO3. ► The newly developed Mo-Si-B coating can be applied to W by a two-step process. ► Mo-Si-B coating applied to tungsten enhances oxidation protection at T < 1300 °C. ► Mo-Si-B coating provides effective protection due to the formation of borosilica.
