Abstract
⺠We model a scratch-closing coating based in an expansive layer. ⺠We have gained insight in the mechanical behavior beyond test based results. ⺠Stiffness ratio expansive and protective layers: maximum scratch closing capacity. ⺠The layer bulk modulus ratio and the layer thicknesses ratio also drive this capacity. ⺠The delamination length between the expansive layer and the substrate: key factor.
