Abstract
This study presents an effective and economically viable human computer interface (HCI) for visually impaired people using Microsoft Chinese Windows. The HCI includes the innovative assistive software, called Chinese screen reader (CSR), supporting an electro-mechanical Chinese Braille display, called Golden Braille display (GBD). The CSR overcomes many previous problems, such as homonym and mouse pointer. The GBD is optimized by Adaptive-Network-based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) to obtain a sufficient thrust force for Braille dots while maintaining flapper temperature within limits.
