Abstract
⺠Thick silica hybrid films were micromachined with diamond cutting tools. ⺠The nanoindentation hardness increased with the heat treatment temperature. ⺠The role of sodium hydroxide in base catalyzed silica sols was studied. ⺠Formation of carbonates, carboxylates and disordered carbon was observed.
