Abstract
In the analysis of shakedown problems that have been discretized by means of the finite element method, large and sparse optimization problems are generated. The purpose of this paper is to provide the details of how such a problem can be cast in the form of a conic quadratic optimization problem, making use of Melan’s static theorem. An effective algorithm for the solution of the optimization problem is proposed.
