Abstract
In this work, relative intensities of Gd characteristic L X-ray were measured, which were induced by proton bombardment over a thin film made by deposition of GdF3 over a pyrolytic carbon substrate. Relative intensities were recorded as a function of the proton energy (ranging from 200 to 700 keV) and also as a function of a parameter defined as the reduced velocity of the incident particle. Results are presented as intensity ratios for the different L transitions observed, measured with respect to the total number of X-ray photons recorded; the energy dependence of the intensity ratios (Lβ/Lα,Lγ/Lα,Lγ/Lβ,Ll/Lα,Ll/Lγ) is shown and acquired data is compared with similar previous measurements, as well as with theoretical predictions [1] based on the ECPSSR theory and a 4th degree polynomial fit of data; a comparison between theoretical predictions and the polynomial fit was performed in order to provide an empirical correcting factor.
