Abstract
⺠Thermal stabilities of the surface oxides of Sc in ultrahigh vacuum were clarified. ⺠The oxide on Sc surfaces decomposed at temperatures over 573 K. ⺠The Sc sample deuterated at room temperature presented an incubation time. ⺠Surface oxides play a crucial rule in the kinetics of Sc deuteride formation.
