Abstract

The objective of the present study is to evaluate the time variant reliability of ship hulls. The still water and the wave induced vertical bending moments are the only loads considered in the analysis. The ultimate vertical bending moment capacity of the ship hull is considered as a limit state. The probability of failure during any period of time is calculated as the probability of occurrence of any up-crossing of the safe level by the loading process. The uncertainties related to the loading are taken into account. The general reliability problem, which includes combination of random variables and stochastic random processes are solved. As the solution of this problem is time consuming the present study develops an algorithm based on fast integration techniques in order to assess the structural reliability efficiently instead of the conventional numerical integration methods.
