Abstract
⺠Preliminary results on castor plant adaptability in Northern Portugal are presented. ⺠Extraction of oil from seeds by mechanical and chemical methods is evaluated. ⺠New information regarding biodiesel production from raw castor oil is provided. ⺠Experimental planning and response surface methodology are used. ⺠Predictive models are obtained and best reaction conditions to produce biodiesel from raw oil are selected.
