Abstract

•Influence of relative humidity on P-wave velocity in dry rock was studied.•When the relative humidity increased, P-wave velocity decreased.•The changes in velocity are caused by the capillary condensation of water vapor.•Clays in rock have remarkable influence on the changes in velocity.•The crack condition in dry rock is affected by the change of the relative humidity.
