Abstract
► Excavation performance in open stoping can be quantified using over-break geometry. ► Existing metrics can provide ambiguous geometrical assessments of performance. ► New shape descriptors are proposed to quantify performance irrespective of scale. ► Shape descriptors adequately capture a number of geometrical characteristics. ► Case history data were used to verify and demonstrate their use.
