Abstract
Results illustrated that adding active carbon filler into bitumen would not degrade the storage stability. Active carbon filler with porous structure can significantly reduce the VOCs emissions. The inhibition effect depends on the kind of emissions and the inhibitor's adding ratio. The influence of active carbon on VOCs reduction increased with the addition ratio and the optimum adding quantity is 5 wt%, without significant reduction of road performance. High specific surface area and developed pore structure contributed to the physical adsorption between active carbon and VOCs molecules, while organic functional groups determined the selective chemical absorption of active carbon.
