Abstract
Glass-ceramics were fabricated by using lead fuming slag and waste glass, and the stabilization of toxics heavy metals (Pb, Zn and Cd) in lead fuming slag was effectively implemented. The influence of lead fuming slag content on physical, mechanical and chemical properties of glass-ceramics was investigated. Results show that the main crystallization phase is hedenbergite (CaFe (Si2O6)). With increasing in the lead fuming slag content, the density, microhardness, compressive strength and acid corrosion resistance of the glass-ceramics increase gradually, while the water absorption and the alkali corrosion resistance decrease. The flexural strength is significantly influenced by the main crystalline phase content and reaches the maximum value of 131.48Â MPa for a 50% content of lead fuming slag. At the same time, the density, water absorption, microhardness, compressive strength and corrosion resistance are 2.94Â g/cm3, 0.035%, 5.98Â GPa, 792.92Â MPa and >96% respectively. The toxic heavy metals in lead fuming slag can be effectively stabilized by glass-ceramics.
