⺠We identify factors driving green chemistry and green engineering in China. ⺠We analyze barriers to adoption of these technologies. ⺠Change is driven by multiple policies and direct investment. ⺠Development is hindered by capacity and short-term focus. ⺠There is a current window of opportunity for investment and technology change.
