Abstract
► The humic Çan coals are classified as lignite to sub-bituminous coal formed in limnic environment. ►Huminite is the most abundant maceral group consisting of mostly humocollinite (mainly gelinite). ► Organic sulphur is the dominant sulphur form. ► The high sulphur content in coal is attributed to regional volcanic activity. ► The facies interpretations are in accordance with the observed sedimentalogical data.
