Abstract
► A new initial field model for the GPS PWE split-step solution is proposed. ► Power of low elevation GPS signal in atmospheric ducts is calculated. ► Surface-based and elevated ducts clearly impose trapping effects on GPS L1 signals. ► Low elevation GPS signals can be used to infer atmospheric ducts.
