Abstract
Nanocrystalline Ni0.25Cu0.30Zn0.45DyxFe2âxO4 (xâ¯=â¯0.0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.075, 0.1 and 0.125â¯mol.) ferrimagnetic oxides have been synthesized by sol-gel autocombustion route. X-ray diffraction study reveals the formation of spinel cubic structure with an expansion of the unit cell by Dy addition. Bertaut method was employed to propose the site occupancy i.e. cation distribution for elements at A-tetrahedral and B-octahedral sites of spinel lattice. The intrinsic vibrational absorption bands i.e. Ï
1 (712-719â¯cmâ1) and Ï
2 (496-506â¯cmâ1) are observed for tetrahedral and octahedral sites respectively. The microstructural aspect confirms the formation of an average grain size (â¼7-99â¯nm) with presence of expected elements. Magnetization studies reveal that the magnetic moments are no longer linear but exhibit canting effect due to spin frustration. The frequency dispersion spectrum of initial permeability has been explained based on grain size, saturation magnetization and anisotropy constant. Thermal hysteresis curve (initial permeability versus temperature) indicates magnetic disordering to paramagnetic state at Néel temperature (TN). High values of TN show that the present ferrite samples are cation-ordered with d-electrons contributing towards the magnetic interaction at the sublattice.
