Abstract
This paper presents a project's development of a component casted by centrifugation for application in an industrial ball valve constructive standard API6D. A comparison between conventional sand casting process and vertical centrifuge casting was done. For this study a steel alloy was chosen according to ASTM A 216 Grade WCB. Based on this specification a comparison was performed between the two manufacturing processes to demonstrate the possible existence of variation in the characteristics and properties as well as the sanity of the analyzed samples. To the performance analysis of the casted part, tensile, hardness tests were performed and the analysis of the microstructure of the materials. To check the superficial sanity a penetrating liquid test was conducted after the machining process of the material, applied to assure the conformity with the projected conditions. The internal sanity was evaluated by ultrasound and radiography tests.
