Abstract
This paper proposes an alternative method of calculation based on the Least Squares Method to determine the bending modulus of elasticity in timber beams. The new equations demand the use of three points of displacements which were measured along the element by the four-point static bending test, providing a superior reliability on the response. The results were compared with the simplified methodology in order to verify whether there is data equivalence. The experimental tests were conducted by the use of Pinus caribaea wood revealing a statistical equivalence between the methods. The simplified methodology was able to determine the bending modulus with good approximation.
