Abstract
The evolution and the present status of the gaseous photon detectors technology are reviewed. Recent developments in several branches of the field are described, in particular the installation of the first large area MPGD-based detectors of single photons for the upgrade of COMPASS RICH-1. Promising advancement in cryogenic and other applications of gaseous photon detector related techniques are mentioned and the quest for visible light gaseous photon detectors is discussed.
