Abstract
New scintillation detectors are receiving special attention for their combination of improved energy resolution and high detection efficiency. This work focuses on the evaluation of the main characteristics of a 7Â cmÃ7Â cm Cerium Bromide (CeBr3) detector. Using a set of reference sources, the detector was characterized in terms of energy resolution and pulse linearity. Then, a numerical model of the detector has been created and Monte Carlo simulations have been used to obtain detection efficiencies for a number of sources, including contaminated material from steelworks.
