Abstract

This paper is presented to solve the nonlinear buckling and post-buckling problem of functionally graded stiffened thin circular cylindrical shells only under torsion by the analytical approach. The shells are reinforced by rings and stringers attached to their inside and the material properties of shell and the stiffeners are assumed to be continuously graded in the thickness direction. Theoretical formulations based on the smeared stiffeners technique and the classical shell theory with the geometrical nonlinearity in von Karman sense are derived. Approximate three-term solution of deflection is chosen more correctly and the explicit expression to finding critical load and post-buckling torsional load–deflection curves are given. The effects of various parameters and the effectiveness of stiffeners on the stability of shell are shown.
