Abstract
Composite reinforced concrete and steel moment frame structures are comprised of reinforced concrete (RC) columns and steel (S) beams - the so-called composite RCS frames. Extensive research over the past several decades suggests that such systems are particularly well proper and economic for use in mid- to high-rise buildings in low to moderate seismic risk regions and low to mid-rise buildings in moderate to high seismic risk regions. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art in testing, finite-element analysis and design of composite RCS systems. Development of guidelines and recommendations of RCS beam-column connections and RCS moment frames are presented and a future research on composite RCS systems is provided.
