Abstract
► We examine the effects of atmospheric plasma on the surface properties of jute fibres and its corresponding composites. ► Changes in surface roughness and chemistry of the fibres depend strongly on the gas mixture used during plasma. ► We examine the corresponding changes in mechanical properties and interfacial properties of the composites. ► Low-molecular-weight oxidised species affected the properties of the composites acting either as adhesion promoter or inhibitor. ► Surface-property relationships were established.
