Abstract
The macroscopic mechanical behavior of elliptical cell honeycombs are characterized using couple-stress elasticity theory. General expressions for the couple-stress elastic constants are obtained through a combination of non-dimensional analysis and numerical analysis. The expressions for the six in-plane orthotropic couple-stress compliances are derived in terms of the honeycomb cell size, cell wall thickness, cell ellipticity and the linear elastic properties of the cell wall material. The derived expressions are validated through numerical analyses.
