Abstract
► Intracellular [Na+] and [K+] levels are increased in brain regions of Alzheimer's disease patients. ► Similar ion increases were observed ex vivo in murine astrocytes treated with amyloid β. ► This ion imbalance might contribute to the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease.
