Abstract
⺠The calcium sensor hippocalcin is deregulated in Alzheimer's disease hippocampus. ⺠In APP mutant mice, hippocalcin levels are increased. ⺠In these mice, hippocampal neurons that are high in Abeta are low in hippocalcin. ⺠Hippocampal neurons from hippocalcin KO mice are sensitive to calcium deregulators. ⺠Cortical neurons from hippocalcin KO mice show sensitivity similar to wild-type. ⺠Hippocalcin knock-out neurons show an age-dependent mitochondrial deregulation.
