Abstract
⺠Manganese (Mn) is a key component of the diet, but in excess can be toxic. ⺠Mn is a component of enzymes and forms complexes in the body. ⺠Mn toxicity is the result of reactive oxygen species and altered energy metabolism. ⺠Therapeutics that target the mitochondria may be useful in combating toxicity.
