Abstract
⺠We examine mitochondrial function and neuronal excitability in human and experimental models of temporal lobe epilepsy. ⺠Mitochondria contribute to seizure-induced reactive oxygen species formation. ⺠More work is needed to determine the mechanisms of how reactive oxygen species contribute to epileptogenesis. ⺠We examine potential metabolic therapies and targets for epileptogenesis.
