Abstract
⺠Reactive (bi)sulfite radicals can damage target proteins and oxidize them to protein radicals. ⺠Myeloperoxidase (MPO) may initiate respiratory damage caused by (bi)sulfite (sulfur dioxide). ⺠(Bi)sulfite can cause MPO-catalyzed oxidation of itself to a protein radical in activated neutrophils.
