Abstract
⺠We overexpressed recombinant PEP-1-ribosomal protein S3 (PEP-1-rpS3). ⺠PEP-1-rpS3 can be efficiently transduced into SH-SY5Y cells and cross the blood-brain barrier. ⺠It suppresses MPP+-induced cell death, reactive oxygen species production, and apoptosis in SH-SY5Y cells. ⺠PEP-1-rpS3 protects dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra from MPTP. ⺠PEP-1-rpS3 may be a protective agent against Parkinson's disease.
